About

Had you known him as a child, you might not have expected Michael Macdonald to become a public speaking and communication coach. He grew up at a time where children were taught to “be seen and not heard”. Always on the outside looking in, told to keep quiet, he became a keen listener and observer instead. But witnessing a conflict one day and finding himself unable to speak up, he began to question his fear of judgement and criticism – and began a lifelong journey of growth that he now shares with the world.

Michael traveled and taught in Nigeria, West Africa, and Papua New Guinea. He was drawn to connecting with people across diverse ethnocultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, and found joy in those moments of connection when he could guide students toward discovery and learning, rather than just telling them what to do.

Continuing his travels, Michael owned and operated a bed & breakfast in Costa Rica. His intention in the hospitality industry was to be of service, understanding his customers’ needs and desires to make their stay a memorable experience – and learning to do it all in Spanish made the challenge even more rewarding.

In the real estate business, Michael observed that most realtors tended to talk too much, “selling” themselves as realtors without truly connecting with their clients. He found more substance and success by focusing on listening, asking questions and connecting with the clients.

As a managing broker with an open-door policy, Michael welcomed his fellow realtors to share their struggles and successes, and worked with them to help them find solutions. Through presence, listening, and empowering support, this evolved naturally into a coaching practice.

“Connect with people. Listen to them and find out what they need.
Work together to achieve it.”

Michael founded The Macdonald Method to offer the benefits of this practice to others who are committed to do the work to improve their public speaking, communication, leadership, and personal empowerment skills. His approach blends practical techniques with supportive guidance. Clients appreciate his ability to create a safe and constructive learning environment where they can explore and refine their speaking skills without judgment. And throughout it all, he is committed to service, growth, and communication.

Whether you’re looking to enhance your executive presence, prepare for a TEDx talk, boost confidence in impromptu speaking, deliver impactful presentations, or feel more at ease in social settings, The Macdonald Method helps you express your authentic self with clarity and confidence.

Michael is a catalyst for change.
